Hey we can all use a little savings right now. Here is the few small things that I have done in my home to cut my electric bill down about $20 a month. It is really simple. It doesn't really use any extra energy. At first I had to put up post it notes for part of it. First, I started unplugging all extra appliances. No toasters, coffee makers, or toaster ovens plugged into the kitchen and no laptops and other accessories like cell phone chargers plugged into anywhere else. It is amazing how much extra energy they take up. I was shocked when I started.
Next get a programmable thermostat if you don't already have one. You can get one for $20 and after a few months it will have paid for itself. Always change your filter for HVAC system as it really will make it more efficient. And if you have the ability to select what times to have hot water on through your hot water heater use it! It is a great feature and saves quite a bit in the long run.
And last but not least. Open those windows anytime the sun is out so you do not have to run lights. In the evenings run the most efficient light in the house and turn off all the rest. Once you get used to the routine you will really start to see a change in your electric bill.
If you try it and see a difference in your bill let me know!
